1513 CLUB

Formed in 1997, the club's prime purpose is to commemorate the Scots dead at the Battle of Flodden (Sept 9th 1513).
There are 50
members of the club, mostly local history enthusiasts and membership is by formal application.

Each year on the 9th September, the members visit Flodden Field to lay flowers at the Memorial. The 'Coldstreamer' usually does this. Bagpipe music is provided by The Coldstream Pipe Band, usually by Pipe Major Robert Bell or his son, Pipe Sergeant Duncan Bell.
This is
followed by the AGM back in Coldstream.
This year the weather was overcast and damp, a day very much like that nearly 500 years ago. An eery atmosphere was felt by all who attended.

The first friday after 9 Sept a dinner is held when the toasts are 'James IV of Scotland', 'Border Men Fell' and 'To the 1513 club'.

The club is planning to erect a small memorial stone on the Tweed Green at Coldstream to mark the spot where several of the Scots nobility were buried.

The club has a special tie - black with a motif containing the Saltire, 2 Scots Claymores and the St. Andrews flag.

Founder members in 1997 were James Bell, Iain Dickson, Stuart Galbraith and Stuart Tait.

Present officials - Stuart A. Galbraith (Chairman 01890-883301), Richard G.Melvin (Treasurer 01890-882434) and Gerald Tait (Secretary 01890-882685).
